Background:
Due to the increased demand of domestic usage, while the water was sufficient for agricultural use it was not up to the EU standard for domestic use.
Jennings O’Donovan & Partners, Consultant Engineers were employed to do a feasibility study of our scheme and Redhills had also employed Jennings O’Donovan & Partners to do a feasilibity study of their scheme and their findings were that it would be more cost effective to have both schemes amalgamated and have one treatment plant at Annagh Lake as the Coppony Lake which was the Redhills source was not suitable.
The Annagh Group Water Supply Scheme comprises the amalgamation of the Butlersbridge Group Water Supply Scheme serving approximately 270 households and Redhills Group Water Supply Scheme, serving approximately 250 households, constructed in 1975. The supply area extends from approximately 4.8 km north west of Cavan Town to the south east of Belturbet, a total area of 90 sq. km of predominately agricultural land. The scheme was recently extended (February 2005) to supply the village of Ballyhaise, located centrally between the Butlersbridge and Redhills supply areas.
